WELCOME to the Vegetarian Society of East Tennessee! We hope that you find our website helpful and that you'll come back often for updates and information.
The Society was founded in 1983 as a non-profit, educational organization dedicated to promoting a plant-based diet in Knoxville and East Tennessee. Our goal is to provide information about the many positive aspects of vegetarianism and veganism, including those of health, nutrition, animal welfare, and the preservation of the natural environment. We think that ours is the "good news diet" and we want to share our positive message with everyone.
Under normal times, we meet the first Sunday of each month, 6 pm, at the Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church, 2931 Kingston Pike, one mile west of the UT campus, for a cooking class and a potluck supper. Curently, our events are "on hold" as our warm weather, outdoor activities have ended, and we await the full reopening of the UU church.
The Society is open to vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike who are interested in learning about our diet of health and compassion. Within our organization there are people with varied dietary and philosophical beliefs, from the prospective vegetarians to those following a totally plant-based (vegan) diet. Some members join the Society for health reasons; others have given up meat for love of animals.
We encourage you to attend our monthly functions, once we start again in 2022, and consider becoming a member. Please check our upcoming events page, and join us for our next healthy gathering.
We welcome you to a new way of eating, and a new way of living.
